Former Wahpeton ace Jayden King pitched five solid innings Thursday for the University of Northwestern.

The lefty took a tough-luck loss despite scattering five hits and striking out four batters, as the Eagles fell 3-2 at Minnesota Morris. The 6-foot-5 freshman allowed two runs or less for the second time this season.

King also made a pair of dazzling defensive plays, gloving a hard grounder between his legs on the mound and throwing a runner out on a dribbler up the third base line.

King was a member of three state championship teams for the Wahpeton Post 20 American Legion Baseball program, earning Class A State Tournament MVP honors in 2024.

He also helped Wahpeton High School win its first-ever Eastern Dakota Conference Championship as a junior.
