Cowboys catch fire from deep in 74-70 overtime win

91-92

Carol Colby | Jaxson Riggs reaches out to snatch a rebound

The Breckenridge Cowboys held on for a 74-70 overtime home win over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

The Cowboys trailed by two with 44 seconds left in OT and Avery Smith grabbed an offensive rebound. The sophomore kicked it out to a wide open Levi Christensen on the perimeter who would dish it off to Jaxson Riggs for the go-ahead stroke from the top of the key. It was the second big triple of the period from Riggs, who ended the night with 16 points and four hits from downtown.

Charlie Kratcha continued to bring his best against the Rebels. In the last meeting between these teams, Kratcha carried his squad with 17 of their 23 first half points. He would go scoreless in the second half of that meeting but Tuesday’s clash would see Kratcha catch fire in both halves with seven triples in a 22-point showing. His lone point at the line came off a four-point play for the junior sniper.

Aidan Sanchez ended the night with a dozen points and nine of them came at the stripe off 12 tries. Sanchez buried two free throws to ice the game after a technical foul on DGF for calling a timeout when they didn’t have any left in the closing seconds of the game.

The Rebels were led by Grant Anderson with 23 and Quincy Cox went for 19 as DGF dropped their eighth straight game after starting the year 15-3.

The Cowboys take their 4-21 record to Pelican Rapids for a 7:30 p.m. Friday game to wrap up the regular season.
