The No. 4 seed Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades made history Tuesday night, winning the program’s first-ever Section 6A quarterfinal playoff game, 5-1, against the No. 5 seed Prairie Centre North Stars.

It was also the first time hosting a postseason quarterfinal for the Blades.

Jaxson Lopez netted a hat trick and Cale Gilbertson stopped 25 of 26 shots between the pipes to share Essentia Health Player of the Game honors.

Matthew Peterson scored on a top shelf wrist shot from the blue line. Easton Neppl put the icing on the cake with an empty netter in the third period.

Kai McDonald tallied a trio of assists and nearly deposited a goal that bounced bar-down back onto the ice. Isaiah Bruechert had two assists, while Charlie Ekren, Cayson Pinsonneault and Gracin Kaste each supplied one.

Breckenridge-Wahpeton was a perfect 3 for 3 on penalty kills. Prairie Centre was not assessed a penalty.

Aiken Lambrecht scored the North Stars lone goal. Carter Holman made 18 saves. Prairie Centre ends the season with a 17-9 record.

The Blades (10-15-1) move on to face No. 1 seed Northern Lakes (17-8-1) in the Section 6A semifinals with a 4 p.m. puck drop Saturday in St. Cloud.
