Carol Colby | Parker Yaggie receives the basketball up top
The Breckenridge Cowgirls held off Section 6A opponent Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday by a score of 64-54. Breckenridge moved to 12-4 following the home win and LPA dropped to 11-6.
Parker Yaggie was a two-way force for the Cowgirls, parlaying her defensive strength and versatile scoring ability into a game-high 18 points and 14 rebounds. Yaggie was a pest on the offensive glass and helped Breckenridge build a 35-18 halftime lead with several steals in the full-court press.
Breckenridge hit the break with plenty of momentum on the heels of an Erin Blaufuss buzzer-beater in the lane. Blaufuss deposited a jumper off the inbound pass with less than a second on the clock.
Kendra Nelson had a big second half for the Raiders, pouring in 14 of her 17 points and tallying four 3-pointers as her team cut the lead to seven.
Sydni Roberts scored 14 and Johnica Bernotas added 10 for the Cowgirls, who consistently stretched the lead back to double-digits to put LPA away.
Breckenridge is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube when they host Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Pelican Rapids.
