Mendez, Yaggie rise to the occasion in DIII National Tournament

Marselio Mendez, former NDSCS wide receiver, and Cooper Yaggie, former Breckenridge linebacker, helped lead Saint John’s University to a victory Saturday in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
No. 3 Saint John’s defeated No. 18 Wisconsin-La Crosse, 24-13, in the second round. The Johnnies were backed by a sea of red on their home field in Collegeville, Minnesota, and scored 21 second-half points after a sluggish start to the afternoon.
Mendez, a senior receiver, was a driving force in the scoring surge. The former NDSCS Wildcat hauled in 11 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown — his 13th of the season.
Yaggie, a senior linebacker, had one of his best games of the year. The former Breckenridge Cowboy posted a team-high nine tackles and came down with an interception — his second of the season.
No. 3 Saint John’s will host No. 6 Susquehanna at noon Saturday, Dec. 7, in round three of the NCAA DIII National Tournament.
