Former Breckenridge High School linebacker Cooper Yaggie had another solid performance Saturday for Saint John’s University. The senior recorded eight tackles and a half-sack in a 34-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus, pushing him over 100 solo tackles in his career.  Yaggie’s 2 1/2 sacks on the season are also a career-best.
Saint John’s is listed atop the NCAA Division III’s National Power Index (NPI) for the second-consecutive week and remained at No. 4 in Monday’s American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 poll. The Johnnies stayed at No. 3  in the latest D3football.com poll.
SJU improved its NPI rating by 2.699 points from last week’s inaugural computation. The NPI is the NCAA’s new system for selecting the 12 at-large bids to the Division III playoffs, which will include 40 teams in 2024 (28 automatic bids, 12 at-large).
