Wahpeton stays white hot heading into postseason, dominates Central 35-9

Wahpeton Huskies

The Wahpeton Huskies football team continued its hot streak of play Friday, finishing the regular season with a 35-9 home win over Grand Forks Central.
Bjorn Kubela passed for three touchdowns, giving him 18 TDs through nine games. The senior connected with Brayden Steffens twice and Treyton King once in the end zone. Kubela showcased surgical precision by completing 15 of 20 passes for 130 yards. Kubela’s pinpoint accuracy was something to marvel Friday, as the signal caller repeatedly placed passes where only Wahpeton wideouts could make a play on the ball.
Steffens made one of the most incredible catches you’ll ever see in a football game, pulling down a third-quarter score with one hand over the top of his defender. You can watch the highlight-reel grab on our KBMW News Facebook Page.
Treyton Mauch had long runs of 55 and 52 yards. The senior scored twice on the ground, bringing his season total to 15 rushing touchdowns. Mauch eclipsed 1,300 yards rushing on the season after logging 20 carries for 230 yards.
Isaiah Bruechert was a monster at his linebacker spot, leading the Huskies with 13 tackles. Landon Ralph helped Wahpeton keep Central at bay in the first half with a tackle for loss in Huskies territory that resulted in a turnover on downs.
Wahpeton enters the North Dakota Class “2A” playoffs as the No. 3 seed, traveling to face second-seeded Valley City from the West on Friday night. The Huskies and the Hi-Liners previously duked it out in Wahpeton, with the Huskies winning 31-27 in a game that featured eight lead changes.
