After more than three years, the T3 Show (Turner’s Television Tuesday) is coming to an end.
Thank you to all the listeners who have shown interest in this series since it debuted in June 2021. I remember how nervous I was to throw something so distinctly “me” out on the airwaves when I was still pretty new on the air, but hopefully this was a good way for the audience to get to know me (for better or worse).
I remember reviewing Sons of Anarchy on my first episode and proclaiming it as my favorite show. It’s still up there, but I can safely say that spot was overtaken by Boardwalk Empire. Speaking of that, go watch it on MAX right this minute then come back and read the rest of this. That show is so good. Sorry, I’m still in the habit of recommending shows to people.
The T3 segments that I enjoyed the most were the ones where I thought to myself, “No way anybody is going to go for this one. This show is too weird.” And then I would have people tell me about how that’s a favorite show of theirs or how they stumbled on to it. It’s fun getting to know people better through their interests, whether it’s a friend, colleague or listener.
Another favorite memory was the time I had my wife, Hannah, write me a script for an episode because it was a show she was passionate about and that I didn’t really follow. She is still eagerly waiting on season two of the series Wednesday. You’ve been warned, Tim Burton.
Few things make me as happy as when a friend or listener tells me, “I checked out that show you recommended.” Even if they’re about to follow that up by angrily telling me that they hated it, I still love talking to people about this kind of stuff. I’d obviously prefer, “Wow, that was really good! Thanks for the recommendation,” but I’ll take what I can get.
Speaking of recommendations, I gave my stamp of approval on more than 130 television series over the last three years so if you don’t know what show you want to binge on a random Saturday it’s not due to lack of choices. I’ve actually put the full list at the bottom of this article, so if you’re looking for a new show that could be a good place to start.
Even though I’m taking a break from the world of television, I will still have a weekly segment where I can try to point you in the right direction if you’re looking for something to watch. Say goodbye to Turner’s Television Tuesday and hello to Turner’s Classic Movies.
Turner’s Classic Movies
I’ve been an avid movie and TV fan my entire life, but even I have so many movies to see before my time on this planet is done. There obviously isn’t enough time to watch all of them, but the idea of this segment is to look back on movies that are considered classics that I haven’t seen before and then see how it holds up.
I’ll use my first episode as an example: There Will be Blood was a film that I’ve had on my list for years. It released in 2008, was considered an instant classic, Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor Academy Award and all while this was going on I was a young man who said, “I’ll get around to seeing that eventually.” At the age of 31 and 16 years after its release I finally gave it a go. You can hear what I thought about it below.
So that’s the idea of Turner’s Classic Movies: To look back at why they’re classics. This segment will air on KBMW at 1:15 p.m. every Monday and will then be available on the podcast section of kbmwnews.com at 1:45 p.m. the same day.
