Wahpeton saw its 29-game American Legion Baseball winning streak end Friday in a road split with Fosston, Minnesota. Post 20 hadn’t lost since the championship game in the Battle of Omaha tournament last June, when they suffered an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Billings, Montana.
Wahpeton dropped Friday’s opener, 5-2. Cooper Klosterman and Myles Hinkley posted two hits each in the loss.
Caden Kappes settled for a no-decision on the mound. Kappes pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out seven batters.
Skyler Bladow was tagged with the loss as Fosston came alive with four hits in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Wahpeton trailed by six runs in the second game, before staging a late-game comeback to win the nightcap by a score of 10-8. Wahpeton outhit Fosston 9-3 and plated six runs in the sixth to earn the win.
In game two, Hinkley batted 2-for-3 with a trio of runs in the leadoff spot. Nick Langenwalter was 2-for-4 and Brayden Steffens went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Klosterman was chased off the rubber early after walking nine batters. In total, Wahpeton walked 13 hitters and committed a season-high five errors.
The Post 20 bullpen stepped up, however, as Carter Hockert pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out three. Steffens worked around a walk and a hit to nail down his first save of the summer.
Post 20 carries a 7-1 record into its first league games of the season Thursday, when they face the Fargo Bombers at Jack Williams Stadium.
