Robert Wanek Jr. | Post 20 bat girl Windy Kappes is hoisted into the air along with the team’s championship hardware Sunday, after Wahpeton ran roughshod through its home tournament with four straight wins.

Wahpeton Post 20 outscored its opponents 51-17 across four games to win its annual home tournament at John Randall Field over the weekend.

The defending North Dakota Class ‘A’ state champions defeated Fergus Falls (MN), LaMoure (ND), Glasgow (MT) and Detroit Lakes (MN) in the tri-state tournament.

Post 20 has now won 26 consecutive games dating back to last season and is approaching a full calendar year without a loss.

Caden Kappes pitched a five-inning, one-hitter during an 8-0 win over Glasgow. The super senior fanned nine batters and walked three in a dominant display of pitch location.

Jayden King, Aiden Hajek and Cooper Klosterman also earned wins in the tournament, while Skyler Bladow secured the save against LaMoure.

Jackson Fliflet, Caden Kappes, Eli Kappes, Bladow, King, Hajek and Klosterman each posted at least one extra-base hit in the tournament.

Nick Langenwalter went 2-for-3 vs. LaMoure with two runs and a beautiful barehanded web gem at third base. The utility man tacked on another hit against Glasgow.

Wahpeton downed Detroit Lakes on Sunday by a 20-6 margin, as the mercy rule was enacted after just 3 ½ innings. Klosterman fell a homer short of the cycle in a 3-for-4 performance, while also striking out five batters on the mound. King delivered a 3-run bomb for Wahpeton’s first home run of the summer.
