Wahpeton wins tourney opener vs. Fergus Falls, 10-2

king-2

Post 20 pitcher Jayden King has now won nine straight American Legion Baseball games dating back to last summer
For the second straight season, Wahpeton Post 20 threw 10 runs up on the scoreboard to defeat Fergus Falls in game one of the annual Post 20 Tournament at John Randall Field.
Jayden King was the winning pitcher in Friday’s 10-2 triumph. The lefty ace tossed a five-inning complete game, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks. King posted six strikeouts. Per tournament rules, games are called via mercy rule if a team leads by eight or more runs after five innings.
King was also 2-for-3 with four RBIs, earning Essentia Health Player of the Game.
Wahpeton fell behind 1-0, but Aiden Hajek sparked the squad with an opposite field triple. Fergus Falls came up short diving for the catch in right field, and the ball rolled to the fence as Hajek circled the bases and celebrated as he hit the hot corner.
King cleared the bases with his fifth-inning double and Myles Hinkley ended the game by plating two runners with a single up the middle.
Skyler Bladow went 1-for-2 with a run and one RBI. Caden Kappes and Jackson Fliflet both scored twice in the win.
Defensively, Cooper Klosterman made a fine backhand play in his debut at first base. Josiah Breuer made a diving catch in right and narrowly missed a second web gem when the ball popped out of his glove on a diving attempt near the foul fence.
Wahpeton is back in action Saturday at 10 a.m. vs. LaMoure and 3 p.m. against Glasgow, Montana. Both games are streaming on KBMW News Live YouTube and airing on B 92.7 FM.
