Paul Armitage (pictured) made his impact felt in right field Wednesday with a sprinting basket catch and an outfield assist that kept the Thunder off the board in the sixth inning.

The Breckenridge Cowboys (10-12) ended their season with a 2-1 loss to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (15-5) on Wednesday in Clarissa.

The Thunder got their first run off a Cowboy error in the third and put an insurance run on the board in the fifth off a sacrifice fly. Breckenridge got a run in the final inning off a bloop single from Jaxson Lopez but the game-tying run was left on second base.

Jaxson Riggs was the only Cowboy with multiple hits in a 2-for-3 performance. Lopez, Paul Armitage and Cooper Roberts each singled.

The Breckenridge defense had a memorable sixth inning, starting with a backhand play at second base by Lopez, who fired a perfect throw to first from his knees for the out.

The inning ended when Paul Armitage threw a a missile from right field and Jaxson Riggs fielded the one-hopper at home, completing the play with a diving tag at the plate.

Gabe Armitage drew the start for Breckenridge, tossing four innings while allowing one hit and two earned runs. The righty walked four and struck out three. Connor Ernst pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

The Section 6A loss eliminated the No. 3 seed Cowboys and their only other loss in the preseason was also to the No. 2 seed Thunder by a score of 4-1 on Friday. Breckenridge bested Browerville, Brandon-Evansville and Upsala-Swanville leading up to the matchup.

The Cowboys finished 7-3 in their last 10 contests.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle moves on to play Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (15-8). The winner of that game plays Parkers Prairie (22-1) in the championship round.
