Paul Armitage continues to rake extra-base hits for Breckenridge

The Breckenridge Cowboys (7-9) baseball team wrapped up both of their games in five innings against the Rothsay Tigers (1-12) on Monday. The scores were 12-0 and 14-0 as the Tigers were no-hit in the abbreviated sweep.

Connor Ernst drove in four runs in the opener with three of the team’s seven hits. Ernst improved his average to .341 while driving in his team-leading 18th run of the year, 12 of those RBIs coming in the past four games.

Jacob Nicholson and Gavin Hoffert each plated two runs and Jaxson Riggs finished with two hits and an RBI.

Gabe Armitage went the first four innings and he didn’t give up a hit with just a walk allowed, lowering his ERA to 1.45 across 24 innings. Quenten Lugert closed out the no-hitter on seven pitches.

Lugert also pitched the first pair of innings in game two, which was another combined no-hitter with Ernst, Lawson Oliphant and Cooper Roberts each tossing an inning.

Paul Armitage had a three-run bomb in the nightcap, his first of the season. Ernst, Charlie Kratcha and Jaxson Lopez brought in two more runs each.

Gabe Armitage was your Essentia Health Player of the Game in the opener. Jordan Teberg and Breckin Anderson shared the honor in the nightcap after reaching base four times and scoring twice.

Breckenridge goes right back to work with a 5 p.m. road game Tuesday against the Border West Buccaneers in Wheaton.
