The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Bolts swim team sent seven athletes to Minneapolis to compete in the Midwest Regional meet. This was a fast-paced meet with little rest between swims, and, on top of that, Sunday’s events were pushed up to beat the weather.
Our athletes were just coming off an exciting state meet with many large time drops. We were well-pleased to see them hold those times and edge a little more time off on a few swims. It is always exciting to compete with athletes from different areas, and in the awesome venue on the University of Minnesota campus.
Top 16 places are noted below:
Isla Burgr, 11, was just short of the medals , improving the 50-meter breaststroke time to place fifth. She also improved in the 100 breast to grab 10th and improved the 200 individual medley for 13th, while adding a 15th in 50 butterfly.
Harvey Fixen, 11, picked up seventh in 100 breast and 200 individual medley, eighth in 50 breast and improved his 100 individual medley.
Milo Selstedt, 12, grabbed seventh in 50 butterfly and 50 breast, eighth in 100 back and ninth in 100 free with a four-second drop there. Selstedt improved his 50 backstroke for 10th and placed 13th in 50 free.
Linnea Burgr, 13, held close to her times in all events, picking up a 13th in 100 butterfly.
Natalie Gramm, 13, improved in 50 free and 100 backstroke by placing ninth in both. She picked up 10th in 200 backstroke, 12th in 100 free and held her time in 200 free.
Elli Hendrickson, 15, placed seventh in 200 backstroke and 15th in 100 backstroke, also improving times in 50 free and 200 free.
Maddy Beyer, 16, had strong swims and was right on her best time to pick up 11th in 200 breast.
The free relays with Maddy, Linnea, Natalie and Elli placed eighth in the 400 and ninth in the 200. The 400-yard medley relay of Elli, Isla, Linnea and Natalie placed 10th, while the 200 medley relay of Elli, Isla, Linnea and Maddy placed 16th.
The team will have its awards banquet this Thursday. They will start practice again May 6 in preparation for the long course summer  season.
