The Wahpeton Huskies (11-4, 6-3 Region 1) found themselves in another overtime thriller Tuesday, holding on for a 66-63 victory at Northern Cass (13-4, 3-2 Region 1). The Huskies have won all three of their overtime games this season.

Junior guard Treyton Mauch took over with 26 points in the tight victory, as Wahpeton extended its current win streak to four games.

Northern Cass senior Caleb Enger sent the game to overtime with a bucket in the final minute of regulation to even the score at 57-57. Northern Cass took their first lead of the game during a bonus period that featured four lead changes.

Sophomore guard Brayden Steffens scored the deciding layup to give Wahpeton a two-point lead with 17 seconds remaining in OT. Steffens isolated himself atop the key as the shot clock ran down, before driving to his left and converting a scoop-shot layup with his right hand. Steffens finished the contest with 21 points.

The Jaguars had a chance to tie the game, but Mauch stepped in front of a driving Trey Husar, establishing legal guarding position as both players fell to the floor. The play resulted in a held ball with the possession arrow favoring Wahpeton.

Following a Mauch free throw with 2.4 seconds left, Landon Moser’s half-court heave fell short as the buzzer sounded on a 66-63 Wahpeton win.

Wahpeton senior Jayden King scored four of his 15 points in overtime. The Huskies made 7 of 18 free throws and turned the ball over just four times. They pulled down 28 rebounds, 11 of them on the offensive end.

The Jaguar tandem of Moser and Husar scored 16 points apiece, while Hudson Rietschel and Caleb Enger added 10 points each. Northern Cass converted 11 of 19 free throws and turned the ball over just six times. The Jaguars grabbed 31 rebounds, 11 of them on the offensive glass.
