It didn’t take long for the Lady Huskies to rebound from their 54-44 Border Battle loss to Breckenridge, as Wahpeton made easy work of the Beulah Miners on Friday in a 55-20 home win.

Wahpeton (7-8) inched closer to the .500 mark by holding Beulah (1-15) to its second-lowest point total of the season.

The Lady Huskies opened the game on an 11-0 run and never looked back as the Miners crumbled under the weight of Wahpeton’s ball pressure.

“We needed to kind of mix up our defenses a little bit and see if we could keep them off balance,” Wahpeton head coach Brian Watson said. “For the most part, I felt like we played a good, solid game. I felt like we did the things we needed to come out with the victory.”

Wahpeton was able to crack the Miners’ zone defense, as junior guard/forward Halle Miller ran the offense for much of the game.

Scout Woods (Jr./F) paced the Huskies pack with 21 points. Halle Miller scored 11, Amyah Max (Sr./PG) five and Leah DeVries (Sr./SG) six.

Wahpeton eighth grader Claire Woods chipped in a career-high seven points. Woods translated her excellent interior play to the varsity stage with the game out of reach.

“A game like this is a good game to try and get players in, get them some good varsity minutes,” Watson said. “We were able to get our young girls in there during the fourth quarter.”

The Miners were led by nine points from 6-foot-2 senior center Shea Barron.

The Lady Huskies travel to Lisbon on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
