
The Breckenridge Cowboys closed out the regular season with a 36-0 home win over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Wednesday, improving to 4-4 heading into the postseason.
The Cowboys took a 14-0 lead into halftime after getting a touchdown in each of the first two quarters. Bailey Evans punched in a 12-yard score in the first and then he found David Erlandson out of the backfield for a 44-yard TD in the second.
Evans would end the game as the team’s leading rusher with 75 yards off 11 carries. He also completed six of his 11 passes for 100 yards.
Erlandson had over 100 yards from scrimmage with 64 receiving yards off three catches to go along with 58 rushing yards on seven totes.
The Cowboys doubled their lead in the third quarter with one-yard scores from Paul Armitage and Lawson Oliphant.
Freshman quarterback Riley Kappes put the finishing touches on the victory by breaking off a 60-yard score with 1:40 left in the game. Jackson Lopez came in to play QB for the two-point conversion, running it in to make it a 36-0 final.
Breckenridge’s defense pitched a shutout for the second straight week and forced two turnovers. Dawson Wienbar and Aiden Sanchez each nabbed an interception.
The Cowboys open the postseason at home on Tuesday and entered Wednesday’s game second in Section 6A. They’re riding a three-game winning streak and have won four out of their last five.
