The North Dakota State College of Science football team gutted out a 14-7 home win over Minnesota North College Mesabi Range on Saturday, ending the regular season with a record of 6-2.

The Norsemen got the lone score of the opening quarter and NDSCS responded with a six-yard touchdown run by Roosevelt Cage. The extra point missed the mark, leaving Mesabi in the lead.

Drew Boxwell took in the go-ahead touchdown himself from two yards out with eight seconds left in the opening half. Cage punched in the two-point conversion for the final points of the half and game.

Cage was a star in his role as the Wildcats’ workhorse back, rushing 34 times for a whopping 211 yards.

Jaylin Nieman-Burnett had a big game on the defensive side of the ball, finishing with a sack and a half and 3.5 tackles for loss. Jessie Hawkins Jr. had an interception for the lone turnover that was forced by the NDSCS defense.

Next up for the Wildcats is a 2 p.m. Sunday home game against Minnesota West Community & Technical College. The Wildcats took down the Bluejays 29-9 on Sept. 2.
