Victim in hit-and-run crash dies from injuries

Bailey Bernstein, the 20-year-old Wahpeton woman who suffered severe injuries in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday, Oct. 12, has passed away.

Bernstein and another pedestrian were walking along the road’s south shoulder in the 400 block of 11th Ave. S. in Wahpeton at approximately 7:40 p.m. when a pickup truck struck her and threw her into the ditch.

Bernstein was brought to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge and then flown to Fargo Sanford via Life Flight.

The driver, 52-year-old Chad Olson, left the scene of the accident and was later identified using information from witnesses and video footage. He’s been arrested and charged with criminal vehicular injury and leaving the scene of an injury crash, both of which are felonies.
