The Wahpeton Huskies were able to pull out a last second victory on homecoming night on Friday night against the Valley City Hi- Liners winning 16-14 the longest touchdown of the season for Kubela and Treyton Mauch.

The Huskies won the toss and started their opening drive with a score. On a fourth and long, Mauch faked a punt and rushed for 15 yards to keep the drive alive. The drive was capped off by a 20 yard touchdown from Kubela to Jackson DeVries to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead.

The Hi-Liners had plenty of chances put points on the board. On the first drive, Valley City would drive the ball 50 yards into the Wahpeton red zone only to turn it over on downs. Valley City would also turn the ball over three times in the first half, with Brayson Heck threw two inceptions including one that was taken back to the 10 yard line by Breyden Steffens.

The Huskies finished the first half with a 22 yard field goal to make it a 10-0 lead.

The third quarter was all Hi-Liner, with Valley City taking the open kick down the field and scoring on a six yard run up the middle. They were able to score again in the third to take their first lead of the night 14-10.

Wahpeton in the second half was the other side of the coin, not able to convert anything on the ground and turning it over once and punting on four drives. With 34 seconds left in the fourth, Kubela dropped back and connected with Treyton Mauch for a 78 yard touchdown to take a 16-14 lead and walk off against Valley City.

The Huskies play Friday on the road against the Grand Forks Central Knights.
