
The Breckenridge Cowboys couldn’t slow down the Pelican Rapids rushing attack in a 28-14 road loss on Friday.
Viking running back Jack Kapenga had three scores in the first half on his way to 137 yards.
Breckenridge was down 12-0 early on in the second quarter when quarterback Bailey Evans broke free for a 48-yard TD. Evans was the leading rusher for the Cowboys with 77 yards. He also had 42 yards through the air and an interception on defense.
Jacob Kunkel made it a 20-14 game with a 44-yard score on a reverse in the third quarter.
The turning point of the game came when Pelican Rapids was facing a fourth and nine from the Breckenridge 10 and Jack Paulson found Luke Sjole for a touchdown grab with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter.
It was the first game at the helm for Breckenridge Head Coach Carson Yaggie.
Next up for the Cowboys (0-1) is their first home game at 7 p.m. against the Staples-Motley Cardinals.
