The North Dakota State College of Science volleyball team began the season against some of the best teams in the country in Rockford, Illinois, going 0-4 at the weekend tourney.

The Wildcats started the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Sauk Valley Community College on Friday and followed it up later that day with a 3-1 loss to Parkland College. Their two Saturday losses were against Heartland Community College and Johnson County Community College by scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.

Sophomore Katie Gostovich was the kill leader in the tournament for NDSCS with 51.

Freshman Samantha Kole and freshman Riley Hauff followed with 34 and 33, respectively.

Riane Mohagan racked up 75 digs in the four matches while Payton Foster set up 74 kills. Rose Wendel also saw time at setter, logging 64 assists on the weekend.

Next up for NDSCS is their home opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Mayville State’s JV.
