The Breckenridge School Board approved the hiring of two new head coaches on Wednesday.
Tony Bogenreif was approved as head coach of the Cowgirls basketball team and Carson Yaggie will take the reigns of the football program. Both of the hires are Breckenridge grads.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better scenario,” Breckenridge Athletic Director Chad Fredericksen said.
Bogenreif spent the last five years as assistant coach for the Cowgirls. Prior to that, he was an assistant for the Cowboys and Wahpeton Lady Huskies basketball teams with both squads advancing to the state tournament during his tenure.
Bogenreif will fill the shoes of Austin Imdieke, who coached the Cowgirls the last five years.
“Tony’s obviously been on the staff and has been part of some really successful teams on both the boys and the girls side. He knows the girls so it just made sense, easy transition,” Fredericksen said. “That program is in good shape. Obviously we’re going to miss Austin with his work with the girls program, but I think Tony’s a great hire.”
Yaggie has been on the football coaching staff the last three years, helping the Cowboys to a pair of section titles in the stretch.
“(Yaggie) knows kind of the ins and outs of where our program is at. I think it’s in a great place and what better guy to take over the job than a guy that’s been there, that’s been running our offense last year,” Fredericksen said. “He’s passionate about not just Breckenridge football, but Breckenridge as a community. I’m just excited about where he was going to take things.”
Yaggie takes over for Fredericksen, who started his second stint as head coach of the Cowboys in 2008. Fredericksen led the Cowboys to three section championships.
