The Breckenridge Cowboys had their season come to an end in the opening round of the Minnesota State Football Tournament, falling to the Minneota Vikings 35-7 in Alexandria on Friday.

After giving up a touchdown on the Vikings’ first drive of the game, Breckenrdige’s Paul Armitage responded by taking a kick return 95 yards to the house. Bailey Evans’ extra point made it a 7-7 game and it was all Minneota the rest of the way.

The Cowboys were held to 74 yards of offense on the day with Cam Nieto leading the way with 30 yards on 13 carries.

Zach Fier led the Vikings ground attack with 141 yards and a touchdown. Minneota moves on to US Bank Stadium for the state semis where they’ll face Filmore Central. The opening kick is set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Breckenridge ends their season with a record of 8-4 with the highlight being their win in the Section 6A Championship.
