The Annual Hoopster Magazine was released this week predicting how the Eastern Dakota Conference would shake out.
The writers of the only annual basketball magazine in the state predicted that the Wahpeton Boy’s Basketball team would finish tenth in the twelve team EDC while the Girl’s team would finish in the middle of the pack at fifth.
The Huskie Boys return six Seniors including Caden Kappes, Ethan Manock and Caden Hockert. Kappes is fourth in returning assist leaders while Hockert ranks third in three point shooters. Manock is first in returning rebounders (12 per game) and shot blockers (42). Hockert established himself as the first scoring option least year and the Huskies will look for other players to step up to fill in when it comes to putting the ball in the hoop.
Wahpeton Boys start their season December 6th at West Fargo Horace
The Huskie Girls return twelve letter winners including Senior McKena Koolmo, Emma Bontjes and Abi Bronson. Add in Sophomores Scout Woods, Lataya Lunneborg and Halle Miller and Wahpeton brings back a team with good mix of  experience and youth. Wahpeton will miss Lidia Motl who was a great three point shooter and backcourt defender, but will expect other Huskies to take the step up and fill in the roles. Wahpeton returns Koolmo who was one of the best set up players last year, as well as Woods being on the best scorers in the EDC. Whapeton will have to lock down on defense if they want to make another appearance at the State Tournament.
Wahpeton Girls start their season December 6th at home against West Fargo Horace.
