Wahpeton Wins Big, Travels to GF for First Round

The Wahpeton Huskies won their regular season finale Friday night 68-20 against the Turtle Mountain Braves as Seniors played their final game at Frank Vertin Field.
Senior QB Beau Arenstein put on a show, rushing for five touchdowns in the win as well as connecting with fellow Senior Caden Kappes on a 47 yard touchdown in the first quarter to make is game total six scores. Arenstein rushed for scores of 60,8, 12 10 and 48 yards making his total yards on just rush touchdowns 138 yards. Treyton Mauch also rushed for four touchdowns and connected with 8 of 10 extra points. His touchdown runs were 55, 52, 77, and 25 yards making his total on touchdown runs alone 209 yards.
Senior Zach Gunnarson also had a huge night on the defensive side of the ball, collecting five sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Nick Langenwalter picked off two pass and Mauch collected a handful of tackles and intercepted a pass in the end zone as well.
The win however, did not push the Huskies any higher in the QRF rankings. Wahpeton entered Friday night at six and even with the win did not move. However, because Valley City lost to Fargo South (7-3). Grand Fork Red River’s win against Dickinson (46-0) and Jamestown’s win against Fargo North (49-21) the standing did change ahead of Wahpeton.
The 11A Playoffs being next Friday with the top eight teams advancing.
