The Breckenridge Cowboys pulled off the upset on the road against West Central Area-Ashby by a score of 45-36 on Friday.
The Knights were the runner-ups in Class AA last season, losing the state championship by a point.
The Cowboys got monster performances from Cam Nieto and Gavin Pederson. Nieto went for 188 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries and Pederson got 30 totes for 165 yards and a TD.
Alex Sanchez also had a touchdown for Breck and 51 rushing yards.
Gusten Bergkvist-Eriksson booted a 29-yard field goal and nailed all six of his extra point attempts.
The Cowboys are 4-2 and head to Hawley for a 7 p.m. game on Friday.
