The #4 Valley City Hi-Liners continued their winning ways in Friday Night Lights. In their third homecoming game of the season the Hi-Liners beat the Wahpeton Huskies by a score of 40-6.

The game started with dueling touchdowns. One from Gavin Gerhardt on a 63 yard run and one from Wahpeton’s Treyton Mauch on a 85 yard kick return on the following kick off.  However Valley City’s extra point attempt would be blocked and the Huskies’ attempt would be hampered by weather resulting in a 6-6 game. The Hi-Liners would score once more in the opening quarter with a 12 yard touchdown run from Gerhardt and a failed two point conversion attempt making it 12-6 to end quarter number one.

The Hi-Liners would keep up the momentum in the second quarter. As on the first drive of the quarter for the Hi-Liners, Zach Sykora would run into the endzone from 36 yards out making the game 19-6. Both teams would have to punt on their next drives before Ethan Miller picked off Wahpeton quarterback Beau Arenstein. The Hi-Liners would march down the field before punching Bryson Heck into the endzone from 1 yard out to make it 25-6 after the missed two point conversion. That score would hold for the rest of the half.

The Huskies would receive the ball to start the second half however the Hi-Liners would force a 3 and out and have excellent field position, starting at Wahpeton’s 38 yard line. The Hi-Liners would give the ball once again to Gerhardt who would get another touchdown, this time a 38 yard run. They would convert the two point conversion and make it 33-6. That would be the only scoring in the quarter as neither side would be able to break the defense for the rest of the quarter.

The fourth quarter saw the Hi-Liners get one more touchdown. This time Ethan Miller would score on Valley City’s opening drive of the quarter, running in from 12 yards out to make it 40-6. That drive by the Hi-Liners would eat up a lot of clock. The following kickoff would see a fumble by Riley Thimjon on the squib kick recovered by Caden Amann. The Hi-Liners would pick up a couple first downs to end the game. The final score would be 40-6.

The Hi-Liner defense would only allow 13 yards in total offense while the Hi-Liner offense picked up 419 yards.

Gavin Gerhardt was named the Ivy Real Estate Group Player of the Game with 259 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.

Next up for the Huskies is a Friday game against Fargo South.
