The Wahpeton Huskies traveled to Fargo North on Friday night to take on the Eastern Dakota Conference leading Fargo North Spartans, losing 40-0 to fall to 1-2 on the season.

In the first half, the Huskies played very aggressive, refusing to punt and instead going for it on every fourth down attempt. In the first quarter it worked. After a fourth down failed conversion on an Beau Arenstein run, the Wahpeton defense was able to stand strong and force Fargo North to punt. The Huskie offense had one of the best drives, taking the ball 52 yards to get to the Spartan one yard line, before Fargo North stood strong and forced a 4th and goal from the 7 where Arenstein pass was completed to Jackson DeVries for a two yard gain and a turnover. After one quarter the score was 0-0

In the second quarter, the Spartans scored twice. Both touchdowns came on Peder Haugo touches. The first score was a 33 yard run, where Haugo was able to break free from Huskie defenders at the line of scrimmage and weave through traffic to break the game open. The second came later in the half on a 25 yard screen pass. Haugo finished with 132 yards rushing and two scores and 26 yards and a score. At halftime the score was 14-0 with Wahpeton kicking off to start the second half.

In the third and fourth quarter, the Spartans were able to score 26 un answered points and the Wahpeton offense was unable to capitalize in the red zone. This is the first shut out the Huskies have been dealt since Fargo South’s 7-0 loss last October.

Beau Arenstein finished with 40 passing yards on six completions and 35 rushing yards on 14 attempts. Treyton Mauch rushed for 54 yards on 19 rushing attempts.  Jackson Clooten lead the team in tackles with seven and Nick Langenwalter was the Player of the Game after two passes broken up on the defensive side of the ball and a fumble recovery.

Next up for Wahpeton is a road battle against 0-3 West Fargo Horace.
