After being recommended by Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson, Sergeant Matthew Anderson accepted the police chief position on Monday.

The Wahpeton City Council voted 7-0 to offer Anderson the job, which Mayor Brett Lambrecht did following the vote. Prior to the vote, a nearly one-hour interview was conducted between Anderson and the council.

Thorsteinson’s retirement is effective Dec. 25, 2022.
