After an up and down weekend of baseball, Wahpeton was able to punch their ticket to the American Legion State tournament this week in Watford City.

In Friday’s Semi Final matchup with Kindred, Post 20 lost 5-1 in nine innings. The pitching for Wahpeton was outstanding, with lefty Jayden King throwing six and two thirds innings without allowing a run and striking out nine batters. The Wahpeton bats however failed to show up and the score was tied 0-0 after seven complete. In the top of the 8th, Kindred was able to score a run. Wahpeton answered back in the bottom of the inning after Reily Thimjon was able to score on a single by Jack Rittenour. In the top of the ninth is when the wheels fell off, as Wahpeton didn’t have enough pitching to close and allowed four runs.

In a win-or-go-home game that followed on Saturday, Wahpeton was able to outlast the West Fargo Vets 2-0. Post 20 was able to score two runs in the first inning, but only had two hits the rest of the game. Caden Hockett and Caden Kappes combined for the pitching shutout.

In the final game of the day to decide seeding, Post 20 lost 7-1 to the Fargo Jets. The bats for Wahpeton were only able to muster four hits with the lone run coming in the sixth inning when the game was already secured. Post 20 will go to state as the four seed out of the East and face the #1 seed Williston at 10AM on Friday. That game will be on B92.7
