According to Agweek, North Dakota and Minnesota sugarbeet farmers will start planting the 2022 crop by the end of April, weather permitting.

Agricultural experts at Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative in Wahpeton have said that the snow has melted and fields will be planted when they dry out and warm up.

Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative’s Director of Agriculture and Research Mike Metzger said the farmers are ready to plant when the field conditions allow. He also said the farmers picked up their sugarbeet seed from the cooperative in early April and that the week after Easter is the earliest date the farmers would get into the field to plant sugarbeets.

The first week of May is the average start date for Minn-Dak farmers to start planting their crop and there was less soil moisture in fields than last year.
