Michael Kaiser will be Wahpeton’s next superintendent with a 5-4 vote approving his hire on Tuesday.
Kaiser was offered a three-year contract with Wahpeton Public Schools and accepted the position. He is currently serving as superintendent of Ellendale Public Schools.
Wahpeton Middle School Principal Steve Hockert was the other finalist for the position. Wahpeton High School Principal Ned Clooten was one of six semi-finalists.
Board Director Mike Hauschild made the motion to hire the out-of-town candidate and it was seconded by board directors Scott Thiel and Ginny Buck. Board directors Kathy Dimmers and Michelle Nelson cast affirmative votes.
Voting against the hiring were Board President Damon DeVillers, Board Vice President Art Nelson and board directors Brad Bakken and Jake Kubela.
Kaiser will fill the shoes of current Wahpeton Superintendent Rick Jacobson who is retiring on June 30.
