Semifinals set for Region 1 Girls Tournament

The Region 1 Girls Basketball Tournament began Thursday at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

The tournament began with top-ranked team in the state Kindred beating up on Maple River, 69-24. Abby Duchscherer led the Vikings with 20 points and Terryn Johnson followed with 16.

Fourth-seeded Richland avenged a lopsided loss to Sargent County earlier this season with a 52-42 victory over the Bulldogs. Three Colt players hit double figures in the way. Megan Roob poured in 17 points, Kennedi Wagner knocked down a pair of clutch triples on her way to 12 points and Alayna Schmitt had 10.

Central Cass bested Hankinson 72-37 with Decontee Smith and Jaylin Cotton leading the Squirrels with 16 and 14, respectively. Hankinson got 17 points from Kya Mauch in the loss.

The final game of the tournament was a 64-45 Northern Cass win over Tri-State. Hallie Crocket went for 20 in the win with Madison Zwetwtig coming through with 14. Marry Rupp led Tri-State with 18 and Nora Braun was also in double figures with 10.

Kindred and Richland square off at 6:30 p.m. tonight with Central and Northern Cass playing the next game at 8 p.m. Both games can be heard on KBMW.
