Huskies Finish Season in Fargo

The Wahpeton Huskies played their final game of the 2021 season, a 41-12 loss to the Fargo North Spartans in Fargo.
The Huskies won the toss and elected to receive. On the opening drive, Blake Schafer’s pass was complete to Tori Uhlich across the middle. While going down, a Spartan defender was able to knock the ball loose forcing the fumble. The Spartans were able to drive down the field and score the first touchdown of the game. With 8:39 left in the first quarter, Mason Lockwood was able to score the first of his four scores to make it 7-0 after the extra point.
After a four and out, the Spartans were able to take over again. Marching down the field and scoring on a 76 yard drive that was capped off by Lockwood rushing in for a two yard touchdown with 8:10 left in the first half.
With 5:54 left in the half, Schafer and the Huskies were able to get on the board. Wahpeton’s offense was able to drive down the field on a failed on side kick by the Spartans, Schafer connected with Colin Samuels on a one yard touchdown pass to make it 14-6, but the extra point attempt would be shanked left to give the Huskies an eight point hole going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Huskies would get as close as they could to tying it up. On the first possession of the second half for Wapheton, Schafer and Caden Kappes would connect for a 14 yard touchdown. The two point conversion would be unsuccessful to make it 14-12 Fargo North with 6:19 left in the third quarter.
With 1:06 left in the third, Lockwood would do it again, this time from 14 yards out. The extra point would be good, to give the Spartans 21-12 lead. The fourth quarter would be all Fargo North. The Spartans would score three times in the last quarter to make the final 41-12.
The Huskies finished the season 5-5. Tune into the Giant Sports Show Saturday at 9am every weekend during the fall.
