The Breckenridge Cowboys pitched a shutout on the road for the second week in a row on Friday in Underwood, improving to 3-1 with a 25-0 victory over the Rockets.

The Cowboys scored on their first possession with a two-yard plunge from Gavin Pederson. Bailey Evans booted the extra point to make it a 7-0 game.

Not long after, the Breckenridge defense came through for a touchdown of their own. Dallen Ernst scooped a fumble and took it 40 yards to the house.

Alex Martel forced the fumble while registering one of his two sacks on the night. He also led the team in tackles with eight.

The final two scores of the night were short-yard touchdowns by James Mertes. The senior running back was the team’s leading rusher with 65 yards off 12 carries.

The 3-1 Cowboys head to Roseau to face the Rams at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1.

Alex Martel was named Essentia Health Player of the Game.
