Two games into the 2021 season, the Wahpeton Huskies already have more wins than they did in the past two years combined.
Wahpeton improved to 2-0 with a 49-19 road victory over Watford City on Friday.
Senior quarterback Blake Schafer one-upped his five-touchdown night in the opener with six scoring strikes. Caden Kappes, for the second week in a row, caught three of them. All of his TDs came in the first half from distances of 10, 36 and 12 yards.
Tori Uhlich, who hauled in a TD last week, scored two in Watford City. His first was from 45 yards out and he followed it up with a 21-yard score.
Colin Samuels, who had to sit out the opener due to not having enough practices, caught an eight-yard pass for a TD to give Schafer his sixth touchdown pass of the night. It also gave the Huskies their biggest lead of the night at 42-6.
Jacob DeVries went in for the first rushing score of the season in the fourth quarter from 15 yards out.
Freshman kicker Treyton Mauch was a perfect 7-7 on extra points in the victory.
The 2-0 Wahpeton squad heads to Grand Forks Central for a 7 p.m. road battle with the Knights on Friday.
