Breckenridge Post 53 fell one game short of reaching the state legion baseball tournament for a second straight season with a 10-1 loss Sunday to Roseau in the Minn. Northwest Sub-State tournament in Red Lake Falls.

Post 53 finishes its season with a 23-5 record.

Breckenridge started the tournament with a 10-0 win over Crookston on Thursday and 10-0 over Warroad Friday before falling 2-0 to Roseau in the third round. Breckenridge then beat Fosston 11-1 to reach the championship round and needed to beat Warroad twice for the title.

Post 53 won a wild 18-17 game on Saturday in which they scored three times in the third, six in the fourth, three in the fifth and five in the sixth for a 17-11 lead. Breckenridge scored once in the top of the seventh for a seven-run lead, then hung on as Warroad scored six times in the bottom half of the inning.

Post 53 scored it 18 runs on 16 hits, with Chris Nieto and Emitt Vig collecting three each and Braydon Wahl, Cooper Yaggie and Collin Roberts each having two hits.

Nieto and Jace Werner both finished with four RBIs while Jared Aamold, Roberts and Vig driving in two apiece.

Hegge started and got the win, going five innings. Vig and Adam Ohm both came on in relief with Ohm getting the final two outs for the save.

On Sunday, Roseau scored four times in the third inning to take the lead before adding two runs in fifth, sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.

Breckenridge scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh on a home run by Wahl, just one of two hits for Post 53 in the game.

Vig took the loss, pitching into the seventh inning, giving up 10 runs on 12 hits.
