
The North Dakota State College of Science softball team went 1-1 at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament on Thursday.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 5-3 victory over Rowan College South Jersey Gloucester. NDSCS trailed 3-0 and scored the game’s final five runs, including a four-run third inning.
Mikayla Johnson led the offense with a two-RBI double. Emma Johnson and Jayante Kotila each had a hit with Kotila notching an RBI triple.
Sydney Schott pitched all seven innings, striking out eight batters. She surrendered three runs off seven hits while walking two batters.
After the win, NDSCS advanced to play six-time defending champion Rock Valley College. The game lasted five innings before ending on the Mercy Rule by a score of 11-1.
Noelle Fortner had the lone RBI for the Wildcats with a single to bring in Ellie Miller.
The Wildcats look to keep their season alive with a 9 a.m. bout with Herkimer College today.
