The Wahpeton School Board has voted to continue requiring masks in its four school despite N.D. Governor Doug Burgum ending the state’s COVID-19 emergency declaration on Friday.

The board voted 6-2 to continue with masks through the end of the school year.

It was also decided that contract tracing would continue following a positive COVID-19 case and that each school’s principal will decide on event capacity for the rest of the school year.

The vote came as parents of students in the Fargo School District asked the board to remove the end the mask mandate among its city schools.
Board member David Paulson made the motion to end the mandate, but another motion to continue to the rule was passed, tabling the discussion until the next board meeting.

Bismarck Public Schools ended their mask mandate on Monday.
