The National Weather Service in Grand Forks issued a spring flood outlook for the Red River Valley on Thursday, one that currently has a small chance of flooding.
With the winter snowpack largely off the landscape after melting this past week, there is currently only a slight risk of river rises due to additional thawing.
The Red River at Wahpeton-Breckenridge and the Wild Rice River in southeast North Dakota have less than a 50 percent change of any flooding as of Thursday with soils remaining partially or deeply frozen.
Some minor flooding could acurre with additional spring snow or rainfall.
The report concluded with the risk of significant snowmelt flooding is quite low, running below long-term historical averages across the Red River Valley.
