Former Wahpeton native Arthur Anderson, who went on to play in the NFL and was inducted into the San Diego Coaching Legends Hall of Fame, has passed away age 84.

Anderson played football, basketball and baseball for Wahpeton, including being part of the 1954 basketball team that won the state championship.

He played college football at Idaho before joining the Marines and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1961. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Anderson returned to San Diego start a high school coaching career that included football and track and field. In 2019 Anderson was inducted into the Wahpeton High School Hall of Fame.

Anderson is survived by wife Sharon of 60 years and four children.
