The Wahpeton Huskies rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second half and senior Tyler Tollefson set the single-season school record for 3-points as the Huskies beat Grand Forks Red River 84-78 in a N.D. Class A East Region elimination game Thursday.

The Huskies, 13-10 on the season, advance to play West Fargo in a state play-in game Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at the SHACK on the NDSU campus.

Red River sees its season end at 7-17.

Wahpeton trailed throughout the game, including 46-35 at halftime.

Red River’s lead expanding to 13 points early in the second half before the Huskies made their comeback.

Wahpeton eventually tied the game at 55-55 on a 3-pointers by Tollefson. Trailing 72-63 with five minutes to play Tollefson scored 10 of Wahpeton’s 14 points on a 14-2 run to give the Huskies a 77-74 lead with 2:15 to play.

Wahpeton then made 6 straight free throws down the stretch to ice the win.

Tollefson finished with 29 points in the game while Desire Munezero had 27..

Tollefson’s third 3-pointer passed Matt Aakre for the single-season record of 75. Tollefson now has 79 3’s on the season.

Bridger Hansen added 20 points for the Huskies while Ethan Manock totaled 12 rebounds off the bench.
