Wilkin County Emergency Services director Breanna Koval reminds residents to “think safety first” when it comes to Christmas decorations and Christmas trees. “Be sure to inspect your Christmas lights when you unpack them” said Koval. “Check to make sure that there are no exposed bulbs that could lead to shocks. Check for frayed wires and make sure that all outlet plugs are in working condition.” Koval also reminded residents not to use indoor light fixtures outdoors due to the elements. “Most indoor Christmas lighting is not rated for outdoor use.” Koval also stressed the need to water Christmas trees often during the holiday season.
