The Wahpeton School Board reversed course on Wednesday, unanimously voting for a mask mandate for Wahpeton High School, Middle School and Elementary School buildings.
The vote came a week after the board voted 5-4 against a mask mandate.
The school conducted a survey of students, parents and school staff on whether the school should implement the mandate as the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in Richland County and across the state.
Wahpeton Superintendent Rick Jacobson gave the results before the vote was taken.
Jacobson said that 58.6 percent of the school staff voted for the mandate while both the parent and student results were 50 percent for each side.
The mandate will be for all staff and students inside school buildings, with the exception while eating or during physical activity. Students will also be given mask breaks throughout the school day.
