One Wahpeton singles player and two doubles teams just missed playing for a spot in the state tournament Saturday during the Class A East Region tournament in Fargo.
In singles play, Wahpeton’s David Comings went 3-2 in the tournament, falling 8-5 to Grand Forks Central’s Ryder McDonald in consolation play, falling one match short of playing for a spot in the state tournament.
Also in singles, Matt Comings was 2-2 before being eliminated in the second round of consolation play.
Wahpeton’s two doubles teams of Andrew Withuski and Alex Comings and Douglas Burvee and Jacob Bartels each advanced to meet in the third round of consolation play. Burvee and Bartels beat their teammates 8-0, then lost 8-0, just missing a chance to play for a state tournament spot.
