The Executive Leadership Team of the Relay For Life of Richland-Wilkin counties was chosen as the community winner of this year’s award in honor of their 2020 virtual Relay For Life event hosted on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Typically hosted at NDSCS Blikre Activities Center, Relay For Life of Richland-Wilkin celebrates cancer survivors, honors those we have lost to the disease, and raises critical funds for the American Cancer Society to continue funding breakthrough cancer research, providing essential patient services and around the clock access to expert cancer information.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this group was unable to host the traditional in-person event that normally brings together 200 Relayers.
The Executive Leadership Team of the Relay For Life of Richland-Wilkin, led by Carol Poppel, adopted the event to a virtual format in only two weeks to ensure the fight against cancer continued to be funded.
The event raised $11,000 dollars during its 6-hour virtual Facebook event, raising over $63,600 dollars for the American Cancer Society.
