The Minnesota State High School League on Thursday voted for no postseason tournaments past sectional play for the fall while also voting that winter sports will go on as scheduled with a reduced schedule.

The current schedule for sectional playoffs in football will be first-round games on Tuesday, Nov. 17, the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 21 and the championship on Friday, Nov. 27. There was no immediate word on where the section championships would be played.

No dates have been yet set for section volleyball play.

The MSHSL also added a seventh runner for teams for the cross country sectionals.

The league then set starting dates for winter sports. Boys basketball and hockey can begin practicing Nov. 23 with girls basketball and wrestling on Nov. 30.

The MSHSL voted to reduce the all winter sports schedules by 30 percent with a maximum of two events per week. There would be three events a week allowed for the last two weeks of the regular season if needed for Covid-related rescheduling.

Current Minnesota Department of Health guidelines dictate that there will be no fans allowed for indoor events and only 250 fans for outdoor activities.
