The Wahpeton Huskies showed improvement on both sides of the ball coming off their bye week, but didn’t have enough to overcome second-ranked Hillsboro-Central Valley, North Dakota, in a 41-14 road loss on Friday, Sept. 25.

Blake Schafer recorded his second 300-yard game of the season with 306 through the air, while also being the leading rusher with 19 yards on ground. The junior QB tossed a pair of scores and one interception.

Caden Kappes was on the receiving end of the first Wahpeton TD near the end of the second quarter, hauling in an eight-yard fade route for the score. The sophomore had 12 catches for 120 yards, doing a bulk of his damage after the catch.

Dez Munezero joined Kappes in the 100-yard club and was a sparkplug for the Huskies offense in the opening half.

Collin Samuels reeled in Schafer’s other scoring strike. Samuels looked in the pass and shed a tackler near the goal line to go in from 27 yards out.

The defense also came up with some impressive stops throughout the second half and Jacob DeVries dove on a fumble in the first half for the lone turnover forced on the day.

The Huskies (0-4) heads home to take on Valley City, North Dakota, at 7 p.m. Oct. 2.
