Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson said Monday that a suspect arrested for a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm within the city was still in jail as of Monday.

Wahpeton police were called to a domestic dispute late last week to an apartment in northwest Wahpeton.

Once officers arrived, Leanders Payne was taken into custody. During the arrest, Wahpeton police also confiscated an AR-15 rifle and several bullet magazines within the apartment.

The charges claim a shot was fired out a window and no one was hurt. Thorsteinson said the bullet has not been recovered due to not knowing the exact path.

Payne will appear in court on Thursday.

The maximum penalty for a Class B misdemeanor is a $1,500 fine and 30 days in jail.
